Set just outside of Lichfield, I had the pleasure of attending a private yoga class at The Art of Wellness this week and with more than six months between my last practice, I knew it wouldn’t be my finest hour.

Located within the tranquil surroundings of Blackwood Barns, the studio is beautifully positioned against a serene waterside backdrop, and from the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted by a studio that had a calm and uplifting ambience.

Warmly welcomed by Founder Llewella Foley, the founder, she immediately conveyed an air of warmth and intuition that set the tone for the entire session.

Having trained and mastered her yoga practice in Florida, USA, Llewella brings a unique blend of expertise and personal connection to her classes. My particular session was an effortless balance of comfort and challenge, tailored expertly to my needs and recovering broken ankle.

Her expert observational skills allowed Llewella to understand my physical limitations, creating an experience that felt both deeply personalised and gently supportive, transforming my initial self-conscious stiff body into a newfound sense of capability and dare I say it, strength.

The Art of Wellness embraces both indoor and outdoor spaces – within the studio, the ambiance radiates positivity, further enhanced by thoughtful wall art that captures the spirit of yoga. Outdoors, the picturesque woodland surroundings provide a perfect setting for mindfulness and connection with nature.

The highlight of the session was undoubtedly the waterside yoga finale, as I focussed on the gentle flow of the stream and the soothing sounds of birdsong, I experienced a profound sense of calm that lingered long after the class ended.

One standout element of the session was learning the ocean breathing technique, a practice designed to calm the nervous system and inspire inner peace. Llewella’s attention to holistic wellness shone through, further enhanced by the use of uplifting essential oils, gently applied to my hands, leaving me both soothed and invigorated.

Beyond beginner yoga classes, Llewella offers a variety of programmes tailored to diverse needs, including yoga for men, children, and specialised workshops coming soon. Her expertise also extends to massage therapy, providing a comprehensive approach to wellness that promises restoration and balance.

Leaving the studio, I found myself wanting more, as I imagine many others do. This is more than just a yoga class; it is a journey into self-connection and serenity, surrounded by natural beauty.

Llewella’s genuine care, the vibrant energy of her studio, and the enchanting waterside location make this experience truly remarkable.
