West Midlands-based Sam Harvey’s journey into the fast-paced world of motorsport is as thrilling as the races he competes in.

Talking exclusively with Lichfield Living, Sam’s career began in 2022, when the 19-year-old’s passion for speed and competition kicked in.

But it wasn’t until the days of lockdown, when Sam found himself racing online, that his latent passion ignited into a full-blown ambition. This spark, fuelled by virtual racing, test days and starter competitions, propelled him into the real-world circuits where he has quickly made a name for himself.

From his first race to his current successes (his last race at Donington secured him his fifth win of the season!), Sam’s rise in motorsport has been nothing short of remarkable.

“In such a short space of time there have been lots of high points,” says Sam. “Some of these include winning races that have been broadcast on TV and standing on the podium as a winner as well as alongside other remarkable drivers.”

However, like any racer, he has faced a share of low points, with accidents being an unavoidable part of the high-stakes racing environment. Yet, Sam’s philosophy is one of resilience. “Each setback is an opportunity to bounce back stronger and faster,” he comments.

This year has marked a significant milestone in Sam’s racing career: an opportunity to drive with Porsche, a chance that came on the back of two successful seasons in other racing series. Sam adds: “Competing with such a prestigious brand is a testament to the skills and determination I’ve had developed, and it marks a new chapter in my career.”

Sam’s love for the sport is reflected in his training regime, which is as rigorous as it is essential. The motorsport season, typically running from April to late October, demands peak physical and mental condition. To maintain this edge, Sam trains almost every day, combining cardio with strength workouts, particularly focusing on neck strength to handle the intense G-forces experienced on the track. Beyond physical fitness, he sharpens his focus and reaction times through time spent in simulators—a crucial part of his preparation.

But Sam’s dedication doesn’t end at the track. He finds relaxation in activities that also enhance his racing skills, like watching TV or playing video games, which help improve his reactions. Off the track, Sam is a calm and sensible driver, understanding that the high speeds of racing are suited only for the track, not the road.

When asked about his favorite track, Sam enthusiastically mentions Cadwell Park near Skegness. “It’s known for and in fact has a thrilling, rollercoaster-like layout, which offers both excitement and speed.”

Looking to the future, Sam is optimistic. With his current trajectory of strong results, he believes he can climb even higher on the motorsports ladder. His role model, Max Verstappen, inspires him not only for his racing talent but also for his professionalism—a quality Sam strives to emulate in his own career.

Interestingly, Sam’s journey into motorsport came after a break from competitive sports, having previously played football. Since taking up racing, he has found it to be mentally and physically invigorating, contributing to his growth as a more personable and confident individual.

As Sam continues to navigate the twists and turns of his racing career, one thing is clear: he’s driven by passion, fueled by determination, and racing towards an even brighter future in motorsport.

Continued luck, Sam!
