This weekend coming, Heart of the Country Village, located just outside of Lichfield, is celebrating its fortieth anniversary…and you’re invited!
Big Birthday Bash
From 10am-5pm on Saturday 8th June, its Big Birthday Party will be an unmissable event for everyone near and far.
The celebration will feature fun games, artisan stalls, face painting, delicious street food from our eateries, live music, and more.
Additionally, the event will support the Birmingham Children’s Hospital meaning that vital funds will be going to a good cause.
For those who haven’t yet visited, Heart of the Country Village is a shopping village, with a difference. It’s the most perfect day out, with clothing, gifts and home decor shops, restaurants, a children’s soft play and luxury services including hair dressing, beauty and dog grooming.
Nestled in peaceful countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of big retail parks and sheltered from the road by natural hedgerows, the Village boasts woodland in abundance with courtyards that are full of trees, flowers and greenery – making it a true shopping haven.
In the beginning
Heart of the Country Village was once a working farm, and has been home to the Stubbs family for over forty years. In 1984 Lesley Stubbs swept out the pig barn and opened her first shop selling eggs, honey and dried flowers.
Lesley’s Canadian influence saw her introduce North American Folk Art to the shop, which grew into the famed Three French Hens. One shop became two with the addition of Paul Martyn Furniture, spearheaded by the visionary Paul, utilising an old tractor shed to renovate pine furniture.
This was the beginning of the respectful conversion of the red brick barns into workshops, eateries and shops and throughout, the Stubbs’ have been careful to protect the traditional features of the buildings, preserving the integrity of the traditional farm buildings such as the threshing barn and the red-brick stables.
Today, Heart of the Country Village is a symbol of lasting success, home to a variety of longstanding businesses. Run by the sons of Lesley and Simon Stubbs and their wives, it offers unique items, skilled craftsmanship, and friendly service.
Jolly good shindig
Talking about the celebration weekend, Kat Stubbs says: “We’ve done many celebrations for lots of local charities but this year we wanted to venture a little further afield and raise money for the Children’s Hospital. It was very much a collective decision between ourselves and our retailers and it’s a charity that is close to many of our hearts.
“We hope that this good cause coupled with the wide variety of activities, food, drink and entertainment we have in store will draw the crowds on Saturday so that we can have a jolly good shindig.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone on the day.”
